The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is pleased to welcome internationally recognised photographer Liz Miller Kovacs as its third Artist in Residence, with her residency exhibition now open at the Goldfields Arts Centre.
Originally from Los Angeles and now based in Berlin, Liz Miller Kovacs is a photographer and visual artist whose work explores remote landscapes shaped by industry, with a particular focus on mining environments and the complex relationship between people and the natural world. Her practice combines analogue and digital photography with research, documentation and creative self-portraiture.
Mayor Glenn Wilson said the residency program continues to build Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s reputation as a vibrant regional centre for arts and culture.
“Having Liz Miller Kovacs as our third Artist in Residence is a fantastic opportunity for our community to experience the work from an internationally practicing artist right here in Kalgoorlie-Boulder,” Mayor Wilson said.
“Her work is thoughtful and visually striking, and it speaks directly to the kind of landscapes and industries that shape our region.”
“This program is also about connecting artists with the community. I’d encourage people to visit the exhibition, drop into the open studio sessions and take part in the workshops to see the creative process up close.”
Liz’s residency at the Goldfields Arts Centre gives the local community the opportunity to engage directly with her creative practice and learn more about her approach to photography and storytelling through landscape.
As part of the residency, Liz will host a series of public programs, including open studio sessions and hands-on workshops for those interested in photography and photobook creation.
