Work has officially begun on major upgrades to the C.Y. O’Connor Pipeline, marking an important investment in the water infrastructure that has supported Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the wider Goldfields for more than 120 years.
The Mayor and Cr Vanessa Walker-Dunstan joined the Premier, local Member and Ministers in Kalgoorlie-Boulder to mark the start of the $543 million Goldfields and Agricultural Water Supply Scheme upgrade.

The project will see 44.5 kilometres of ageing pipeline replaced and the Binduli Reservoir duplicated, increasing the scheme’s capacity by 10 per cent and helping secure reliable water supplies for the future.
Mayor Glenn Wilson said it was significant to see the infrastructure that has played such an important role in the region’s history now being upgraded for the future.
“Water has always been central to our story, and after more than a century of service, it’s great to see this important infrastructure receiving significant upgrades,” Mayor Wilson said.
“This investment will help support the growth of our city and the wider Goldfields for years to come.”
The upgrades are expected to support more than 330 jobs during construction, while strengthening the infrastructure needed to support future growth and investment across the Goldfields and Wheatbelt.
