The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has successfully secured $2.14 million in Federal Government funding to support delivery of the city-wide Precinct Plan, a project that will guide the long-term revitalisation of the Kalgoorlie and Boulder CBDs, the Airport precinct, and other key community and economic development infrastructure projects.
The funding, awarded through the Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program, marks a major milestone for the City, its residents, and local businesses. Over the next 21 months, the project will deliver a clear, investment-ready blueprint that supports the community’s priorities and drives growth in key areas. This work will guide future investment, improve local infrastructure and services, and strengthen Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s position as a vibrant, thriving regional centre.
The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is the centre of one of the richest resource areas in the world, with a thriving economy and community. This project brings together strategic planning work to create a city-wide precinct Master Plan and placemaking strategy and cohesively map and integrate a range of economic, First Nations, social and cultural opportunities.
Three key places have been identified for revitalisation – Hannans Street, Burt Street, and the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Airport. The project will deliver an investment ready precinct plan, with established partnerships and priority projects.
The announcement coincides with the first meeting of the City Activation Working Group to be held on Monday – this is a roundtable bringing together our local community, business, tourism, education and mining resources representatives to support the planning process.
Mayor Glenn Wilson said the funding accelerates the work already underway, allowing us to do more, reach further, and make a bigger impact than ever before.
“We have been working closely with our community to bring their vision for Kalgoorlie-Boulder to life. This year’s upcoming projects focus on developing vibrant city centres, creating welcoming and active public spaces, and supporting strong local business activity that fosters pride in our community,” Mayor Wilson said.
“This Federal Government funding supports our plans and the interests of our community, with the City already focused on bringing these ideas to life. Over the coming summer, Kalgoorlie and Boulder will see pilot activations driven by the Working Group – from pop-up experiences to public space improvements and creative installations – so people can experience first-hand just some of the plans for a revitalised CBD.”
The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Master Plan is set for delivery in 2026, laying the groundwork for future activation projects and continued growth across our city.
“On behalf of our community, I thank the Federal Government for this important acknowledgement and investment in our shared vision. I also acknowledge the many community members whose feedback has shaped this project and will continue to play a vital role in bringing it to life,” said Mayor Wilson.
