The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder has completed Stage One of its LED sports lighting renewal program, delivering major lighting upgrades at Usher Park and the Oasis Playing Fields. The new LED systems are now fully operational, providing brighter and more energy‑efficient lighting for local clubs, families and community groups.
With Stage One now finished, the City is progressing to the next phase of the program, which will deliver further improvements at Digger Daws Oval, Sir Richard Moore Oval, Morrison Oval and Wallace Park.
Stage Two of the upgrade – supported by State Government election commitment funding – will provide modern, energy‑efficient lighting that boosts usability and increases community access to some of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s most heavily used outdoor sporting facilities.
Improved lighting will extend evening access for clubs, families and community groups, offering greater flexibility for training, competition scheduling and community events. The City will continue to work with sporting organisations to plan the timing of works and to minimise disruption during upcoming seasons.
An independent audit previously identified ageing lighting infrastructure across the four Stage Two sites, prompting a program of works to replace older assets with new poles where required, modern LED floodlights, and update electrical systems to align with current Australian standards.
Mayor Glenn Wilson said sporting ovals remain vital community spaces for people of all ages.
“Sporting ovals and reserves play a big role in what makes our city such a great place to live. Whether it's kindy kids having their first kick or lifelong locals still pulling on the boots, sport and recreation remain part of everyday life in Kalgoorlie‑Boulder.”
“Delivering projects like this relies on strong partnerships, and we appreciate the State Government’s recognition and support of the City’s long-term advocacy,” he said.
“Working together means we can lift the standard of local ovals right across Kalgoorlie-Boulder. These upgrades will make a meaningful difference for everyone who uses these spaces – now and well into the future.”
Local Member for Kalgoorlie, Ali Kent MLA, said:
“This is a fantastic announcement and will make a massive difference to so many sporting groups in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, including T Ball, Touch and Football.
I'm so proud of this commitment - it's just one the ways the Cook Labor Government is delivering for Kalgoorlie.”
The lighting renewal program is designed to modernise sports lighting across Kalgoorlie‑Boulder and ensure facilities meet contemporary performance standards. Works for Stage Two are expected to begin later this year.
