The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is calling on residents to help shine a light on everyday heroes who make our community a better place to live by nominating them for the 2026 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

For more than 20 years, these awards have celebrated locals who go above and beyond – people who lend a hand, give their time and bring others together to make Kalgoorlie-Boulder a stronger, kinder, and more connected community.

Nominations are open for the following categories:

  • Community Citizen of the Year (individuals over 16 years)
  • Young Community Citizen of the Year (individuals aged 16-30 years)
  • Senior Community Citizen of the Year (individuals aged 65 years and over)
  • Active Citizenship Award (community groups or events)

Mayor Glenn Wilson said the awards are a chance to recognise everyday people who make a difference, big or small.

“Kalgoorlie-Boulder is full of people who quietly do amazing things for others – whether they’re volunteering, mentoring young people, supporting local groups, or just being the fantastic neighbour, everyone wishes they had,” said Mayor Wilson.

“These awards are our way of saying thank you and celebrating the people and groups who make our city such a great place to call home.”

This year, the City is proud to participate in the Auspire - Australia Day Council WA Community Citizen of the Year Awards, a statewide program that recognises outstanding community members across Western Australia.

Nominees may be recognised for contributions to education, health, sports, voluntary services, culture, the environment, social inclusion, or any other activity that improves community wellbeing.

“It’s often the quiet achievers who make the biggest impact,” said Mayor Wilson. “If you know someone who makes our city a better place, take a few minutes to nominate them – we want to recognise their efforts – and you might just make their day!”

The City’s Walk of Fame nominations are open year-round, honouring those who have made a lasting impact on Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Nominations are also encouraged, with new inductees announced alongside the Community Citizen Award winners at the City’s Australia Day Celebrations on 26 January 2026 in Centennial Park.

Nominations close at 5pm. on Sunday, November 16, 2025.

More information, including nomination forms and eligibility guidelines, is available on the City’s website or in print form at the City’s Administration Building, located at 577 Hannan Street, Kalgoorlie.
