The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, in partnership with Western Power and the State Government, is celebrating the successful completion of Stage 1 of the City's LED Streetlighting Upgrade Project, with more than 1,200 streetlights now upgraded across Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
The project will see a total of 1,900 streetlights converted to modern LED technology across the City by early 2027. The upgrades provide improved visibility for road users and pedestrians, reduced maintenance requirements and increased energy efficiency.
Stage 1 of the project commenced in February 2026 and has delivered upgrades across key residential areas throughout the City.
Assessments undertaken following this first stage show that the project is already delivering measurable improvements, with average lighting levels on residential streets also improving, helping to reduce dark spots and create more consistent lighting across neighbourhoods.
Stage 2 of the project is scheduled to commence in October 2026. A further 700 streetlights will be upgraded across Kalgoorlie-Boulder, with works expected to be complete in early 2027.
Once complete, all 1,900 nominated streetlights across the City will have been converted to energy-efficient LED technology, supporting a more sustainable and modern lighting network for the community.
The transition to LED technology is also expected to deliver long-term operational benefits, with early data already showing a reduction in electricity consumption alongside lower ongoing maintenance requirements by Western Power.
