Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s young people have a brand-new space to explore these school holidays, with stage one of the Kingsbury Park Youth Precinct opening this Saturday.
From the weekend, the new asphalt pump track and upgraded skate park will be open daily from 7am to 5pm - just in time for the July school holidays. Whether you're on a scooter, BMX, skateboard or skates, the new facilities offer a safe and exciting space for riders of all ages and skill levels.
Mayor Glenn Wilson said the stage one opening marks an exciting time for the City and community.
“It’s great to see sections of this new space open, especially during the school holidays when kids and families are looking for things to do,” he said.
“This isn’t just a skate park or a pump track. It’s a place where young people can hang out with friends, get active, and feel like they’ve got somewhere that belongs to them.”
“There’s been a lot of input from young people right from the start, and I think they’ll be excited about what’s been created here, especially when stage two and the final sections are complete. Stage one is just a glimpse of what’s to come,” he said.
This first stage opening includes the first pump track of its kind in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, a fully refurbished concrete skate park, new toilets, and the start of new shaded seating and viewing areas. Additional seating will be added soon to make the space even more comfortable for spectators and families.
Stage two of the project, expected later this year, will complete the precinct with a multi-sport court, parkour zone, accessible play tower, climbing nets, inclusive swings, a flying fox, BBQ and picnic areas, and a flexible community space with power, Wi-Fi, and shelter.
Mayor Wilson also reminded the community that the broader site is still under construction and that there may still be some minor disruptions over the coming weeks.
“We know there’s still work to be done, but we’re nearly there,” he said.
“We really appreciate everyone’s patience while our team finishes these areas. I know it’ll be worth the wait.”
Upon completion of the full precinct, an official opening event will be held to celebrate with the community and acknowledge the significant support of project funding partners, including the State Government and Lotterywest, who have each contributed $2.1 million towards the project.
To celebrate the completion of this first stage and the start of the school holidays, the City has a full calendar of free and low-cost events across Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
This includes the return of Shred Fest from 7–9 July at the Youth Precinct, with free skateboarding and scooter clinics, competitions, and giveaways. Young people can also take part in collaborative art workshops to help shape the precinct’s final design elements.
Other school holiday highlights include Disney’s Pixar Putt at the Goldfields Oasis, arts and crafts at the library, story trails in Boulder, and a live performance of Aladdin and His Magic at the Goldfields Arts Centre.
