Kalgoorlie-Boulder was full of excitement over the weekend as two major community celebrations delivered unforgettable moments - the magical Twilight Christmas Markets and the iconic St Barbara’s Parade.
From ‘snow’ falling in the desert and one of the world’s biggest mining trucks rolling down the main street, the events showcased why Kalgoorlie-Boulder really is a city like no other.
It’s not every day you get to play in snow in the middle of summer but that’s what happened as the Goldfields Arts Centre transformed into a Winter Wonderland for the Twilight Christmas Markets.
More than 6,000 people came out to enjoy the evening. Children ran through falling snow sessions, families lined up for photos with Santa, and live entertainment filled the evening with festive cheer. Stallholders and food vendors offered handmade gifts and delicious treats, giving the community a fun and local way to start their Christmas shopping early.
The celebrations continued the next morning as thousands of residents and visitors lined Hannan Street for the 26th annual St Barbara’s Parade, a highlight of the St Barbara’s Festival and a proud display of industry and community spirit in the Goldfields.
Over 70 groups and organisations made their way along Hannan Street, featuring dancers, cheer squads, cultural performers, go-karts, scooters, emergency services volunteers, and impressive mining equipment. Confetti, music, and laughter filled the street, while some floats delighted the crowd with foam machines and cool water sprays to beat the summer heat.
The finale delivered a spectacle that can only happen here, Northern Star Resources’ massive CAT 793 haul truck rumbling through the heart of the city, raising its tray to the absolute delight of the crowd.
Weekends like this show how much this community loves to celebrate. And the City will keep backing the fun from snowy surprises to giant trucks because those unique experiences are what make Kalgoorlie-Boulder special.
