Transition of the Goldfields Designated Migration Agreement (DAMA)

The City recently met with the Department of Home Affairs (DOHA) and was advised that the Goldfields DAMA will be transitioned to the WA DAMA on 4 April 2026.

Importantly, existing conditions for employers and visa holders who have agreements under the Goldfields DAMA will remain in place for the duration of their agreements, some of which are up to five years.

DOHA has advised that although the Goldfields DAMA expires on 4 April 2026, applications for new labour agreements or variations can still be submitted to the City to ensure processing before expiry. DOHA is estimating this date to be February 2026.

Mayor Glenn Wilson said the City is continuing to work with DOHA and the WA Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) to ensure a smooth transition to the WA DAMA. In the meanwhile, applications can still be submitted.

“The Goldfields DAMA has been an important program for our region, helping local businesses fill critical skills gaps and welcoming skilled workers who have become a valued part of our community,” Mayor Wilson said.

“We have seen Goldfields DAMA applications almost triple in the past three years, with a 159% increase from 2022 to 2024.”

“We want employers to know that the City will continue to strongly advocate for regional migration support at both State and Federal levels, acknowledging the unique challenges of sourcing skilled workers in the Goldfields.”

The City will contact all existing DAMA labour agreement holders directly to inform them about the changes and offer support during the transition.
