Youth Mayor Elected for Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Council

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s Youth Council is made up of young people aged 12 - 25 years with a passion for making Kalgoorlie-Boulder a great place for young people to live.

In April this year, the Youth Council committee came together to elect a new Youth Mayor for the remainder of the 2022-23 year term.

Nominations were received from Youth Councillor Nandini Gera and Youth Councillor Elisyah Jackson, with Nandini Gera ultimately elected Youth Mayor by her fellow Youth Councillors.

Youth Mayor Nandini Gera acknowledged all previous Youth Mayors for the great work completed to date and congratulated Youth Councillor Elisyah Jackson on her courage for nominating. Youth Mayor Gera is joined by Deputy Youth Mayor Braydon Donnell who was elected in December 2021.

Nandini is currently a Year 12 student at Eastern Goldfields College and is excited by the responsibility of becoming Youth Mayor for the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. As the leader of the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Council, Youth Mayor Gera will represent young people at civic events and functions, speak and advocate on behalf of the city’s young people, and maintain strong relationships with the City Councillors, the Mayor and City staff on behalf of the Youth Council.

“I’m excited at the opportunity to lead the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Youth Council and give back to the community. Joining Youth Council has helped me grow in confidence and I’m excited to work on all the exciting events and projects the Youth Council is delivering; particularly the Youth Precinct project,” said Youth Mayor Gera.

In her first meeting as Chair and Youth Mayor, Nandini jumped straight into business and raised items such as the upcoming HitFM Youth Awards with nominations closing on Friday 13 May. The Youth Awards recognise young people and people working in the youth space doing awesome work in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community.

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder congratulates Youth Mayor Gera on her election. For more information on Youth Council and all its amazing projects, visit www.ckb.wa.gov.au/our-community/youth
