Five local not-for-profit organisations will share $227,000 in funding through the first round of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s 2026/27 Major Grants Program.
The funding was endorsed by Council at last night’s Council Meeting and will support a diverse range of projects spanning motorsport, arts and culture, community storytelling and early intervention services for children and families.
Deputy Mayor Terrence Winner said the successful projects reflected the important role local organisations play in creating opportunities, supporting the community and attracting visitors to Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
“We’re really pleased to be investing $227,000 into community projects that will make a difference in Kalgoorlie-Boulder,” Deputy Mayor Winner said.
“There’s a great mix in this round. We’re supporting major events that bring visitors and activity into the city, while also investing in our arts and cultural infrastructure, preserving our local stories and helping address an important gap in support for children and families.”
Applications were assessed against the City’s strategic priorities and the Major Grants Program criteria, including community need, the organisation’s capacity to deliver, expected community benefits and alignment with the City’s priorities.
This year’s successful recipients are:
- Boulder Speedway Association Inc - $61,000 towards the delivery of the 2027 Regional 410 Sprintcar Event at the Kalgoorlie International Speedway, including school and youth engagement activities, a free community ‘Meet the Drivers’ event and a feature Sprintcar race meeting attracting competitors from across Western Australia and interstate.
- Goldfields Repertory Club Inc - $50,000 towards Stage 3 construction documentation for the redevelopment of the Goldfields Repertory Club Theatre, an important step towards ensuring a modern, accessible and inclusive community performance venue for the Goldfields region.
- Goldfields Women's Health Care Centre - $35,000 towards the establishment of a locally delivered Child Sexual Abuse Therapeutic Service in the Goldfields, supporting participation and program delivery activities that provide trauma-informed early intervention support for children and their caregivers.
- Second Act Arts Inc - $41,000 to deliver Chronicle: Kalgoorlie-Boulder Stories, a community storytelling project that will capture and preserve local stories through interviews, a live public storytelling event and the publication of a commemorative hardcover book.
- Western Desert Racers - $40,000 towards the delivery of the 10th annual Kalgoorlie Desert Race 2026, a nationally significant motorsport event, featuring a free community street party, national championship racing and activities that support tourism, volunteer development and community engagement.
Deputy Mayor Winner said the City’s grant program was an important way of supporting organisations to deliver projects and services that benefit the broader community.
“These projects are being driven by passionate local organisations, many of them supported by volunteers who put in an enormous amount of work to make things happen,” he said.
“The City’s funding is one part of that picture, but it can help turn a good idea into something people can experience, participate in or benefit from. We’re proud to support these organisations and look forward to seeing their projects come to life across Kalgoorlie-Boulder.”
The Community Grants Program supports large-scale initiatives with broad community impact that require a higher level of funding and planning. There are two Major Grant funding rounds each year.
